Course Development Process

The course development process at UNLV is a straightforward one. Generally, the application is submitted by the faculty developer after consultation with his or her department chair.
-
Application: Complete the online Course Development Approval Form, submit it and print out a copy.
-
Approval: Sign the form and have it signed by the department chair and Dean, who routes it to Online Education for final approval.
-
Planning: Meet with your instructional designer (ID) to plan the design and development process.
-
Design: Design centers on the pedagogy of teaching online and suggesting best practices. Design is at least partially completed before development begins.
-
Development: Course development is carried out by accomplishing the planned tasks. Development centers on constructing and linking the many components of a course by the faculty developer, the ID and the media design team, taking place both within and outside of WebCampus.
-
Review:Your Instructional Designer will provide you with a useful faculty checklist at your initial design meeting. The checklist is a combination of University policies, federal regulations, and best practices. The completed course is then reviewed using this checklist by the faculty developer, your Instructional Designer and the Instructional Design Coordinator. Any identified changes are made to the satisfaction of involved parties and the course confirmed complete.
